Hiring: Business operations lead

This October it will be four years since I started The Rebooting. I’ve focused on staying lean and growing organically. Now, The Rebooting has a newsletter audience of 25,000, podcasts downloaded 20,000 times a month, and growing events, lead gen and content marketing business lines. The business is profitable and will double to more than $1m this year.

I’m ready to make my first full-time hire: business operations lead who will be a critical partner in expanding TRB.

The person

I need someone who can lead critical areas of the business that need focused daily management. I need a hands-on doer, not a strategist. This is about building from the ground up, not compiling to-do lists for others to do. You will need to “take out the trash” on mundane but critical tasks as well as plan and execute big initiatives. I firmly believe this is an execution business. Getting your hands dirty is necessary. You need to be able to think strategically while being immersed in the daily details of execution. 

The right person has a severe bias to action and is comfortable being given unfamiliar challenges in ambiguous and at times chaotic situations without a set process to follow and then figuring out how to get them done and codify the steps into a system.

You will be an integral part of the business and work closely with me to build The Rebooting. This is a great introduction to how to build a sustainable media business from the ground up. 

The role

The business operations lead is responsible for client delivery. That means everything that takes place after a client agrees to a deal. Most of TRB’s programs go beyond ad sales to involve research, custom content, online forums and in-person events like private dinners and the New Growth Agenda. The business operations lead will be responsible for smooth, efficient and effective delivery. In addition, the business operations lead will lead critical company infrastructure projects, such as building out an audience database and website and growing The Rebooting’s membership program.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Onboard clients: Set up a call to go over the program, deadlines, assets needed, etc
  • Create a briefing document for all custom campaigns, project manage the delivery from start to finish 
  • Manage ad tracker and inventory
  • Work with sales to develop and deliver successful programs
  • Oversee client service for the collection of advertising assets, deliver them ahead of ads running
  • Project manage all custom campaigns from post-sale to successful delivery 
  • Manage the day-to-day client relationship
  • Act as project manager for tech projects with third party vendors
  • Act as project manager for building out The Rebooting’s audience database
  • Manage operations of TRB Pro and TRB Insider

Sample projects: 

  • Lead delivery of a co-branded event, including audience delivery and session programming
  • Work with external tech vendors to develop the next version of The Rebooting’s platform
  • Work on developing a 2025 product set to meet financial goals 
  • Develop and execute a plan for growing TRB Pro and TRB Insider

This is a remote role with the need to be available during ET. Compensation will depend on experience.
